Evelyn Rice

Evelyn M. Rice, age 102, passed away on Sunday, July 31, 2022, at St. Luke Community Hospital. She was born on November 30, 1919, in Missoula, MT to A. D. and Anna (Helgeson) Pigg. She attended grade school and high school in Missoula and then attended nursing school in Minnesota, becoming a registered nurse. She worked at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula and met Floyd Rice who was a patient.

Evelyn and Floyd married June 10, 1948 and lived on a ranch west of Ronan where Floyd raised cattle and hay. Evelyn worked on the ranch part time and part time at St. Luke Community Hospital and St. Joseph Hospital in Polson. Their son Duane was born in 1950 and their son Vern in 1952.

Floyd retired in 1974 and he and Evelyn moved to Missoula.   Floyd died in 1978 and Evelyn stayed in Missoula until 2020 when she moved to Ronan.

While in Missoula, Evelyn attended Bethel Baptist Church and was very active in their ministries.

She was preceded in death by her husband Floyd.

She is survived by her sons, Duane Rice of Durango, CO and Vern (Diane) Rice of Ronan, MT and two grandsons Vernon and Steven.

As per her wishes, Evelyn was cremated and there will be a memorial service held on Thursday, August 11, 2022, at 3:00 P.M. at Grace Gospel Church (formerly Bethel Baptist) at 1601 South 6th Street in Missoula.
