Marilyn Gladys Bown (nee Wells), 84, passed away peacefully with her family at her bedside of health-related complications on November 28th, 2022, during a short stay in the hospital. Marilyn was born August 17th, 1938, in Murray, Utah to Fred and Gladys Wells. Marilyn married David N. Bown in July of 1957, in the Salt Lake City Temple.
Marilyn was raised in Murray, Utah. She was the oldest of 3 strong sisters, Judy, and Norma. She graduated from Murray High School. Marilyn was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Marilyn moved to Nigeria, Africa in 1972 with her husband and her 3-year-old son and successfully created a home that welcomed her daughter in 1974. She lived in British Guyana, Tapachula, Mexico, and Guatemala City, Guatemala as well. She was a talented seamstress and made many of her children’s cloths and even a wedding dress while living abroad. Marilyn was a resourceful cook. She loved arts and crafts. Many days you would find mother and her best friend and sister, Norma, making something. She has seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Marilyn is survived by her husband, David N. Bown, her two children Jennifer Bown and Christopher Bown (Kara), her sister Judy Leonard, brother-in-law Glenn Cates and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death are her parents, sister Norma Cates, and brother-in-law Jon Leonard.
Funeral services will be held in Washington, Utah at the LDS chapel at 628 S. 3000 E., Washington, Utah at 1:00 pm, with a viewing at 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. December 03, 2022.
A second funeral service will be held in Ronan, Montana on December 10, 2022, with specific details to follow.
