Bob left us to be with his son, Bobby. He passed away on March 1, 2018 at St. Luke Community Hospital in Ronan. He was born on May 8, 1937 in Polson. He attended school in Polson and enlisted in the Army from 1955 to 1957. He married his friend and love of his life, Bea Barber on May 28, 1960. They were married for 57 years. They had two sons, Brad and Bobby. Bobby passed away in 2010. There are two grandsons, Cole and Shade.
The family lived in Polson and Bob worked for Meadow Gold from 1963 to 1968. During this time, he broke his back riding bareback in a rodeo. He attended the University of Montana and earned a BA Degree. He worked for Community Action in Missoula as the Executive Director. Later, they built a house in Evaro. He later worked at a ranch in Arlee training mules. He raced mules on many tracks in the Northwest. He and his family operated the bar and bowling alley in Arlee. His family, along with the help of the Barber family, outfitted in the Bob Marshall Wilderness. He then raced horses from Canada to Arizona. When his health started failing, Bob retired in 2005.
He was preceded in death by his son, Bobby, Barber brothers, Dick, Kim, Scott, and Wayne Couture.
Bob is survived by his wife, Bea, in Ronan; son, Brad; a brother, Cecil Noble; a sister, Barbara Couture; his other Barber brothers, Sam and Tom. Also surviving are many special nieces and nephews that have many memories with their “Uncle Bob”; and his two special sisters-in-law that took good care of him, Charlene and Sharon Barber.
Bob’s wishes were to be cremated and there will be a memorial service at a later date.
