Stephen Francis Johnson, 75, of Missoula, passed away on Sunday, October 16, 2022 at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center. He was born on December 1, 1946, in Missoula’s St. Patrick Medical Center to Robert and Frances Johnson. Steve lived at home, attended Missoula schools Prescott, Sentinel High, and the University of Montana. He played high school football and was an AM-Club member. He attended the University of Montana graduating with a master’s degree in education and a degree in mathematics and computer science.
Steve taught high school classes at Wallace Idaho for several years, returning to Missoula summers to obtain his master’s degree in education. He also supplemented his bachelor’s degree in mathematics with computer science course of study.
Steve then moved to Kent, Washington where he was employed by Boeing Aerospace Company, as a computer programmer until his retirement in 1997.
Steve was a loving son, brother, friend, mentor to many people. He would often refer to the “Johnson family bible for guidance.”
Steve enjoyed hunting, fishing, and hiking in his younger years. He took many photos of family, animals, and of those areas in Utah where his mother’s family history occurred. In later years TV Westerns, movies, and sport events filled his days. Many pictures he took of animals in his yard, bear, deer, and squirrels.
Survivors include a brother Robert David and Sandy Johnson of Las Vegas, nephew Kristofer and wife Sheila Johnson, nephew Paul Johnson, and niece Rochelle Johnson. Steve was mentor to Dixie Johnson of Yuma Az and her children Jon, Justice and Jesse, Cousins Kathy Owings of Hamilton MT., and Lesley Ann Cody of Newport WA.
Celebration of Life will be at Lolo Community Church at 11897 Lewis & Clark Drive, Lolo Mt. 59847. Pastor Jeff Bochman will be officiating at 2:00 pm Saturday October 29,2022. Burial will be at Hamilton Cemetery at a later date.
